No One Is Mandated Here

Recently, West Point graduates commenced to hear the President claim a “Great Mandate” from the American people. In truth, our leader won with less than 50% of the popular vote in both his terms. Hardly a mandate to radically change the American Government.

The only real mandate in America grows from the grassroots up. It comes from the people to all the people. Dem Rising grows from the support of people-friendly reforms.

Learn about and join groups for ranked-choice voting, ending gerrymandering, or expanding voting rights. Join small groups or large groups. Public persuasion inspires change, possibly more than you can imagine.

Find organizational efforts like climate change with Sunrise Movement, or student-led groups for gun control with March for Our Lives, and Black Voters Matter, a community-wide focus on empowerment of voting rights.

Sometimes change comes from people in elected office. Right now, it’s coming from consistent, courageous, collective action. The coming generations have proven they are important to values-driven causes. Keep showing up. This is how Dem Rising and a Democracy in peril is retaken.

Remember, no American leader has unlimited power.
